Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Eligibility/Overview

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services are available for:

  • Clients in Clark, Cowlitz, Klickitat, Skamania, and Wahkiakum counties
  • Individuals covered by Washington State Medicaid (Apple Health)

Typical services can include:

  • Primary Care
  • Behavioral Health
  • Urgent Medial Care
  • Dental
  • Dialysis
  • Specialty Medical Care

Please call 911 for emergency situations or transportation to the Emergency Room.

When you request a ride, we work with you and your medical provider to determine the type of transportation most suited to your abilities. We then locate the lowest-cost option given your needs, and arrange for service with one of our providers. The most common types of transportation available include:

  • Bus passes/Train tickets
  • Gas vouchers/Mileage reimbursement
  • Door-to-door rides

Washington Administrative Code requires Community in Motion to provide transportation to local doctors and clinics and to arrange for the lowest-cost mode of transportation that is suitable for the client’s medical condition and abilities.

Scheduling a Ride

To allow us time to schedule your ride, call our office at least two business days before a scheduled medical appointment. We can take requests up to 14 days in advance. Transport to urgent appointments may be scheduled on an "as available" basis. If you need to cancel a ride, please call us as soon as possible, but at least two business hours before your scheduled pick-up time.

When you call us for a ride, we’ll let you know when you need to be ready to be picked up. Your ride may arrive up to 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after your scheduled pick-up time. For shared rides, you may be asked to be ready earlier than you expect. Unexpected delays may occur due to extreme traffic congestion, road construction or weather conditions.

What to have when you call:

  • Date of birth
  • Your Provider One ID number
  • Your pick-up address
  • The name, address and phone number of your medical destination
  • Your appointment date(s) and time(s)
  • The medical reason for your appointment
  • Information on any assistive equipment or mobility devices you use

During evenings and weekends, our transportation vendors can also provide trips to non-life-threatening urgent care, as well as rides home from a hospital stay. Please call our office for after-hours contacts.

If you need to cancel a ride, please call us as soon as possible, but at least one day before your scheduled pick-up.

Out of Area Transportation

If a medical service is not available in the local community, we may arrange transport to the closest available provider in another location. Out-of-area transportation must be pre-authorized by your local doctor. We recommend that you call us at least seven working days in advance to allow us time to arrange and complete the approval process for trips outside your local community.

Funding

Trips are paid for through Washington State Health Care Authority under each client’s Medicaid coverage.

Success Story

Here is an excerpt from someone we helped.

"You guys are amazing! I truly appreciate all the effort all of you put into helping provide transportation for my granddaughter. It has been such a relief to have a SAFE way to get her to her appointments!"
